PRESS RELEASE: New data reveal widespread human rights shortfalls across Kyrgyzstan
New data released today by independent NGO, the Human Rights Measurement Initiative (HRMI), show that Kyrgyzstan’s government still has a long way to go in achieving its human rights commitments for its people. Kyrgyzstan’s overall Empowerment score of 3.8 out of 10 indicates that many people are not enjoying their civil liberties and political freedoms (freedom of speech, assembly and association, democratic rights, and religion and belief). With a very low score of 3.3 out of 10, the right to assembly and association is Kyrgyzstan’s lowest Empowerment score and falls within HRMI’s ‘very bad’ range.
