Protecting citizens from torture and ill-treatment
Мар 13.2020Within the framework of the project “Protecting the Rights of Victims of Torture and Ill-treatment” supported by the UN Voluntary Contributions Fund for Victims of Torture, Bir Duino-Kyrgyzstan makes a significant contribution to protecting the rights of victims of torture and ill-treatment by providing qualified legal assistance from counselling to accompaniment during the investigation, in court, up to filing of individual complaints with the UN Human Rights Committee.
Bir Duino-Kyrgyzstan provides access to legal assistance to the most vulnerable groups of citizens, national minorities, victims of torture, sentenced to life imprisonment after the ethnic conflict in southern Kyrgyzstan in 2010. The services are provided free of charge.
The organization adheres to the clear principle of the need to respect human rights while combating extremism and terrorism. Therefore, the project provides assistance to victims of torture and ill-treatment accused of religious extremism, terrorism, as few human rights organizations and lawyers take up the defense of this group of torture victims.
Whenever possible, victims of torture and ill-treatment and their relatives are provided assistance in obtaining medical, psychological, and social help with the participation of partners.
