Parallel Event Title: Amplifying Women’s Voices in Peacebuilding Processes
Recommendations by the Panellists:
- Intersectional security perspective should be adopted, which is sensitive to the overlapping of gender and other identity categories and the particularities of local, regional and international contexts, including women’s own definition and perspective of security;
- Allocation of the necessary resources (financial, human and material) to the implementation of the NAP;
- Ensure equitable sharing of responsibilities to protect women and girls in peacebuilding processes at international level;
- Elaboration of a monitoring and evaluation framework that clearly defines responsibilities and assigns specific targets, indicators and, deadlines for key activities on peace and security; ensure that all parties and mechanisms are responsible and accountable to women;
- Comprehensive and effective inclusion of civil society including refugee- and women-led grassroots organizations, in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the NAP regarding peace and security issues at domestic and international levels;
- Promotion of structural changes in society for a more gender equalitarian society;
- Place the agenda of women, peace and security closer to the agenda of disarmament and access to justice;
- Increase the responsibility of the UN member states to achieve the implementation of the UN, EU, and OSCE Guidelines for the protection of human rights defenders, paying key attention to the support and protection of women human rights;
- Promote the implementation of the principles of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325, Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), ensuring gender equality with a focus on risk and disaster prevention to ensure peacemaking, peace-building and sustainable development in the world;
- Apply the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights at community levels with the participation of women's and human rights organizations;
- The Universal Periodic Review should become a key tool for the UN member states to implement their international obligations;
- The gender dimension should be the basis for the UN, OSCE and other international organizations to promote sustainable development and reduce the existing gaps and inequalities from local to global;
- Empower women and their local organizations, especially those that are led by Refugees and/or Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to define and act on their own priorities and needs to create secure and peaceful environments wherever they live;
- Empower women at the grassroot level, including refugees and IDPs to strengthen their participation in peacebuilding processes;
- Increase women’s access and control over resources and assets to strengthen their economic autonomy and security;
- Accountability, Networking and Government involvement is needed for Peace and Security;
- Global policies and decisions should be localized, understood and adapted in Peace building processes e.g the Resolution 1325;
- Women are traditionally positioned to receive early signs of violent conflicts. This should be an opportunity for their involvement in peace negotiations and conflict prevention.
