On 20 January, 2018 young volunteer leaders of the Human Rights Movement “Bir Duino-Kyrgyzstan” will conduct a peaceful march to support protection of women’s rights in Kyrgyzstan. The purpose of this event is a vivid demonstration of disagreement of young people with unfair situations that take place in the country: early marriages, bride kidnapping, polygamy, pedophilia, domestic and sexual violence, harassment at work, slavery and human trafficking.

This action is timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Women's March, which will be held around the world on 20-21 January, 2018. We recall that on 21 January, 2017 more than 6 million women and supporters from 600 cities of the world took part in a demonstration in the form of a march to support all women of the world and pave the way to creating the world where equal opportunities exist without gender-based discrimination and violence.

According to the data published by the Delegation of the European Union to the Kyrgyz Republic, women's political representation at all levels should be 40%, but currently this figure is much lower. For example, out of 120 deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh, only 20 are women. According to the UN, the gross salary of women in 2015 was, on average, 21.8% lower than men’s salary in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia and 16% lower in the countries of the European Union. Also, according to the UN, on average, women perform 2.5 times more unpaid work on housekeeping, and in some countries 8 times more than men .

Furthermore, the Resolution of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic No. 158 dd 24 March 2000 prohibits the use of female labor in 450 types of work . Cancellation of this resolution is another message of the march of volunteer leaders of the HRM “Bir Duino-Kyrgyzstan” to the new government of Kyrgyzstan.

The Human Rights Movement “Bir Duino-Kyrgyzstan” is actively working to ensure the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of girls and women. From November 29 to December 10, 2017 the Family Restoration Center "Alternative" together with the youth movement HRM “Bir Duino-Kyrgyzstan" conducted screenings of the documentary film "Equality Begins with the Family" in three schools (No. 54, 81 and 86) and two higher education institutions of Bishkek (Kyrgyz State Law Academy and the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the KR) within the framework of the international campaign "16 days against gender violence”.

The Youth March to Support Women’s Rights Protection in Kyrgyzstan that is to be conducted on 20 January is a continuation of activities aimed at raising the level of legal knowledge of citizens of the country, ending violence against women and creating equal opportunities and conditions for development of women's leadership potential and sustainable development of the country without discrimination and violence.

Gender experts and human rights activists of the Kyrgyz Republic will become key speakers at the end of the March.
On 20 January at 3 p.m., we are waiting for all concerned citizens willing to join the Youth March to Support Women’s Rights Protection in Kyrgyzstan, which will start at the monument of Urkuya Saliyeva (at the crossing of Chui ave. and Sovetskaya street).
