On November 6, the Hyatt Regency Bishkek Hotel will host the opening ceremony of the annual XI International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival "Bir Duino Kyrgyzstan - 2017". This year the festival will be held under the slogan: "Human Rights and Freedoms for Sustainable Development".
The program of the festival includes 18 documentary films by authors from South Africa, USA, France, India, Sweden, Canada, Belgium, the United Kingdom of Great Britain, Russia, Norway, Poland, Australia, Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan. 5 national and 13 foreign films will be presented at the festival.
The tapes stand out with their relevance and variety of social problems, they are grouped according to the thematic categories, responding to one of 17 sustainable development goals, such as: Good Health and Well-being, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Gender Equality, Reduced Inequality, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, Life below Water, Zero Hunger, Life on Land and Responsible Consumption and Production. The discussions with the spectators will be initiated after demonstration of each film, with the support of film directors and leading experts.
The strategic partner of the Festival-2017 is the Ombudsman Institute of the Kyrgyz Republic. Thus, the government and the civil sector use common approaches in the promotion of human rights and freedoms. Also Festival – 2017 is supported by the Embassy of Switzerland in the Kyrgyz Republic, the British Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic, German Embassy in Bishkek, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the UN Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as volunteers and community activists.
The jury demonstrates the diverse team of representatives of state bodies, international organizations, masters of Kyrgyz cinematography and the independent media.
Ten innovative workshops will be held during the festival, serving as a unique opportunity for the civil society to gain the innovative experience for the positive changes of development on national, Central Asian and international levels.
The opening ceremony of the festival will be held on November 6, 2017 at the Hyatt Regency Bishkek Hotel, from 15:00 to 19:00.
Representatives of government agencies, embassies, international organizations, NGOs and media are invited to the opening ceremony. Besides, International guests from Belarus, Russia, France, Germany, Italy and Kazakhstan have already arrived. The program of the ceremony includes showing a film about women's leadership with subsequent discussion with international experts.
Competitive demonstration of films will be held in Bishkek from 7 to 9 November. The screenings will be held on November 7, from 9:00 to 19:00 at the American University of Central Asia at 7/6 Aali Tokombayeva Str. and at the Manas Cinema on November 8-9, from 9:00 to 19:00, located at 47/A Manas Avenue.
Summing up the results and awarding ceremony of the XI International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival "Bir Duino-Kyrgyzstan 2017" will be held on 10 November at the Hyatt Regency Hotel from 15:00 until 18:00.

For reference: Bir Duino Festival is annually organized and held since 2007 by the Human Rights Center "Citizens against Corruption", which later became known as "Bir Duino Kyrgyzstan". The main purpose of the festival is to promote human rights and freedom through documentary films, allowing audience to understand the socio-political and economic contexts of problems, critically comprehend them and find solutions. This is the only one human rights festival in Central Asia, which provides a broad platform for viewing and discussing problems in the human rights field, engaging filmmakers from near and far abroad.
