The Human Rights Movement “Bir Duino-Kyrgyzstan” invites you to the closing ceremony of the XIII International Festival of Documentary Films on Human Rights “Bir Duino Kyrgyzstan-2019”. The ceremony will take place on 15 November 2019 at 6 p.m. in the Imperial Hall of the Dostuk hotel at 429 Ibraimov str.

This year 22 documentaries from the USA, Russia, Switzerland, Afghanistan, Austria, Finland, Serbia, Spain, Turkey, Canada, Poland, Georgia, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan and Kyrgyzstan were presented at the festival. The films are dedicated to the rights of children, children with disabilities, children of migrants, refugees and reflect innovative methods of solving systemic problems in the field of children’s rights protection in Kyrgyzstan, as well as at the regional and international levels.

The screenings were conducted every day of the week from morning till evening, daily gathering a full audience room in the movie theater "Rossiya". Traditionally, after watching each film, discussions were held with participation of the audience, filmmakers and experts, everyone could express their opinion. The international jury (represented by Teresa Kralova, Ela Kinovska, Almut Rokhovanski, Ruben Kazaryan, Valentina Galich, Stambulbek Mambetaliev and Chyngyz Narynov) have been judging the films and will announce the winners of the competitive screenings at the closing ceremony of the festival on 15 November (Friday) at 6 p.m. in the Imperial Hall of the Dostuk hotel. The international jury of the festival “Bir Duino” will determine the winners in six nominations:

1) Grand Prix;
2) Best National Film;
3) Best International Film;
4) Best Short Film;
5) Audience Choice Award;
6) Best Film According to the Children’s Jury.

This year the festival is dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goals and the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and is held under the slogan “Voices of children and equal participation”.

In addition to film screenings, 15 seminars on topical issues concerning respecting children's rights were held within the framework of the festival with the participation of international experts from Armenia. Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Georgia, Turkey, India, Tajikistan, Germany, USA, as well as representatives of UNDP, OSCE, embassies and consulates, ministries of Kyrgyzstan, the judiciary, the Ombudsman institution, as well as the Jogorku Kenesh, international organizations and civil society. Seminars in the format of discussions, Italk, talk show trainings were hosted by Ministries, government agencies, cultural and educational institutions. Students, children and teenagers took a very active part in these events. Following the results of the seminars, the main recommendations were sent to the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Administration of the President and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic to promote the Sustainable Development Goals.

Due to their topics, the events raised the discussion of climate change issues and its impact on empowering women and children, promoting gender equality, strategies to eliminate violence against children, pressing issues of justice for children, as well as access to medical and social services, opportunities for the development of children's parliaments and youth initiatives.

Over 60 volunteers actively participated in the festival, - students of schools and universities in the capital, active youth. A large contribution to the development of the festival was made by the media, which actively covered the opening of the festival and the daily work of the thematic seminars and shows, the activities of the jury and experts. We thank all the guests who leave their comments and reviews, photos and videos on social media.

It is important to note that the festival will conduct screenings in all the regions of Kyrgyzstan until March 2020.

The festival “Bir Duino” has been organized and held annually since 2007. The main goal of the festival is to promote human rights and freedoms through documentary films that allow viewers to better understand the socio-political and economic contexts of various problems, reflect critically on them and discuss the solutions.
